Hello DCP Families,
It has been a while since I have written the DCP membership a letter. During the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, I wrote often with updates on how DCP was weathering the storm. The storm has not passed, and we are still in uncharted territory. However, the DCP Board of Directors and teachers are still here, still meeting, and still working to keep DCP a successful part of this community.
Currently, as most of you know, DCP is leasing space with the Asbury United Methodist Church. They have ongoing concerns about COVID-19, and those concerns encompass DCP. Asbury has let us know they are not comfortable with DCP resuming our preschool classes while they remain closed. The Board and teachers are hopeful we can open for a shortened spring session. We have no exact date at this time, as much of what happens with this pandemic is unknown and unpredictable. The Board and teachers understand the concerns of the church about rising COVID-19 cases and hope that as we get closer to spring, we will have an improving trend in those numbers. Patience is never easy, and we are aware that this puts families in difficult situations. We are so incredibly thankful for the support of our cooperative members through our fall fundraisers. While the preschool remains closed, DCP has continuing operating expenses that we have the obligation to pay. The Board is also looking into grant possibilities to help us cover these expenses, as well as expenses we could face opening while COVID-19 is still present in the community.
During this downtime, the Board and teachers are also exploring the possibility of a new home for DCP. We love and appreciate the hospitality we have found at Asbury, and we know DCP can continue to grow and thrive there. However, we will not pass up the opportunity to find a new, exciting adventure for DCP to expand and flourish even more. If you have thoughts about a creative and unique space, you’re welcome to contact me.
We will continue to keep you informed as we go forward. While I know this isn’t the news we all are hoping for, I know that DCP will soon return to the extraordinary preschool we know and love. Please contact me with any questions. My personal email is listed below, or you’re always welcome to email us at communications@dcpkids.com.
Thank you for continuing to support DCP throughout this uncertain time. We are still a cooperative, and we will weather this together!
Sincerely,
Jen Rahde, President
